Relax, folks, this isn't a deep subject. It's pretty light-hearted, actually.

I was behind a car this morning that was going slower than molasses in February. It had one of those "Jesus Is The Way" bumper stickers. More often than not, when I see a vehicle that has one or more "pro-Jesus" stickers, the vehicle is going very slow.

I may be wrong, but I seriously doubt Jesus will love you folks any less if you drove a little freakin' faster! I mean, at least go the speed limit, or maybe a tad faster! Heck, for that matter, I don't think that driving like Jeff Gordon is exactly going to tick off the Almighty, do you?

God will love you if you speed. God will love you if you drive the speed limit. God will also love you if you drive slowly, but everyone else will become incredibly irate! How about throw the rest of us drivers a bone and find the thin pedal on the right?

I know, it was yesterday. There's a plethora of stuff on the blogosphere about it, so I'll spare you the details. I just have a few reflections before moving on to other topics:

1. The boycott was on May 1. May Day. A Commie Day. Bad PR move, Jorge.

2. Legal immigrants participated in the boycott. I guess they enjoy being laughed at by the 12+ million lawbreaking immigrants with whom they sympathize.

3. Immigrants tell us "We just want to come to America to work, get an education, and be a law-abiding consumer!" So what do they do? They SKIP work, SKIP school, BREAK the laws and DON'T consume? Looks like 0-for-4 to me!

4. Illegals trying to win American hearts? I don't think this is what they had in mind. It seems that carrying around Che placards, chanting Aztlan slogans, violence against cops in LA, and toting "United States of Mexico" signs go over like a fart in church with mainstream Americans.

5. Quote of the day by Carol Platt Liebau: "[T]he 'day without immigrants' strategy has two inherent risks. One is that it won’t inflict enough pain to make its point. The other is that it will."

I'm done beating the dead horse...for now, anyway! :-p

Representative of the kind of knee-jerk jumping to prejudiced conclusions that liberals and the “educated” are famous for, someone named Elaine Meinel Supkis ignored all of the known facts of Paul Mirecki’s alleged and highly doubtable beating story:

A professor at the University of Kansas was attacked on a back road by thugs outraged at him talking about “Christians”, mocking them for their childish belief in a fantasy world where gods create things out of thin air and then kill everything out of spite. They don’t want anyone to mock them while they ran around acting like bezerk lunatics. Christian thugs have been ruining our holidays, ruining schools, ruining everything they latch onto, especially poor Jesus.

First, we do not know for sure that Prof. Mirecki was, in fact, attacked on a back road by anyone. Second, how does Elaine know that these thugs were “outraged at him [for] talking about ‘Christians’, mocking them for their childish belief in a fantasy world where gods create things out of thin air and then kill everything out of spite?” The only mention of possible motivation was given to Mirecki’s friends by Mirecki. It was not included in his report to the police. And what Mirecki reportedly told his friends was that his assailants mentioned the ID course. As I posited yesterday, they could have been liberals outraged that Mirecki cancelled the course.

Next, Elaine, who doesn’t believe in God but does believe she can read minds, tells us even more details about the alleged assailants’ opinions and motives: “They don’t want anyone to mock them while they ran [sic] around acting like bezerk [sic] lunatics.”

I have a question for Ms. Meinel Supkis: If Professor Mirecki admits that whatever happened to him was not related to the ID class, will you apologize to the Christians you have maligned?

What have I been saying since I started this blog about Democrats running from the "liberal" label as fast as an Ethiopian chicken? Sure, they want the money from the moonbat groups like MoveOn, PETA, Communist Party of America, etc., but they don't want the albatross around their neck of being labeled (accurately, I might add) "liberal."

See, your average liberal citizen generally doesn't mind being identified as such. After all, they're citizens and not politicians. However, most politicians (with only a few exceptions) are as scared of the label as David Duke and Robert Byrd at a Black Panther reunion.

But don't take my word for it...listen to Democrat analysts themselves. From the Washington comPost:

The liberals' hope that Democrats can win back the presidency by drawing sharp ideological contrasts and energizing the partisan base is a fantasy that could cripple the party's efforts to return to power, according to a new study by two prominent Democratic analysts.

In the latest shot in a long-running war over the party's direction -- an argument turned more passionate after Democrat John F. Kerry's loss to President Bush last year -- two intellectuals who have been aligned with former president Bill Clinton warn that the only way back to victory is down the center.

Since Kerry's defeat, some Democrats have urged that the party adopt a political strategy more like one pursued by Bush and his senior adviser, Karl Rove -- which emphasized robust turnout of the party base rather than relentless, Clinton-style tending to "swing voters."

But Galston and Kamarck, both of whom served in the Clinton White House, said there are simply not enough left-leaning voters to make this a workable strategy. In one of their more potentially controversial findings, the authors argue that the rising numbers and influence of well-educated, socially liberal voters in the Democratic Party are pulling the party further from most Americans.

On defense and social issues, "liberals espouse views diverging not only from those of other Democrats, but from Americans as a whole. To the extent that liberals now constitute both the largest bloc within the Democratic coalition and the public face of the party, Democratic candidates for national office will be running uphill."

Now here are a couple of Democrats who get it! They understand political reality 100% correctly! Liberals are in the overwhelming minority in this country. Americans simply are not liberal, and by and large, they detest liberals. Liberals are usually removed from reality when it comes to things that the average American finds important (such as national defense in a post-9/11 world), and oftentimes, they are incredibly condescending and arrogant towards the very same people they purport to court at the ballot box! Continuing:

Galston and Kamarck -- whose work was sponsored by Third Way, a group working with Senate Democrats on centrist policy ideas -- are critical of three other core liberal arguments:

· They warn against overreliance on a strategy of solving political problems by "reframing" the language by which they present their ideas, as advocated by linguist George Lakoff of the University of California at Berkeley: "The best rhetoric will fail if the public rejects the substance of a candidate's agenda or entertains doubts about his integrity."

· They say liberals who count on rising numbers of Hispanic voters fail to recognize the growing strength of the GOP among Hispanics, as well as the growing weakness of Democrats with white Catholics and married women.

· They contend that Democrats who hope the party's relative advantages on health care and education can vault them back to power "fail the test of political reality in the post-9/11 world." Security issues have become "threshold" questions for many voters, and cultural issues have become "a prism of candidates' individual character and family life," Galston and Kamarck argue.

Their basic thesis is that the number of solidly conservative Republican voters is substantially larger that the reliably Democratic liberal voter base. To win, the argument goes, Democrats must make much larger inroads among moderates than the GOP.

Bingo! Like I said, liberals are in the tiny minority, and will likely remain so for the foreseeable future. Plus, conservative citizens AND politicians usually embrace that label...liberal politicians do not.

Health care and education mean jack squat if we're all dead from a well-placed Islamofascist nuclear suitcase. Jean-Francois Kerry thought he could win with non-security issues. He was wrong.

Look, Bush was vulernable last year. I believe that a demonstrably centrist and pro-defense Democrat may have likely defeated Bush. However, the party that can't seem to do anything right chose a hippie anti-war protestor and effete elitist Northeastern liberal snob as their standard-bearer. It's like they just couldn't help themselves!

The one area where the analysis seems to come up just short is that it fails to provide a valid recommendation on how to deal with the liberal cabal attempting to overtake the Democratic Party. The analysts recognized the problem, but like most Democrats we see today, failed to propose a viable solution. Simply "don't appear too liberal" is not going to cut it.

The New York Times Online, today, is drumming up sympathy for abortion.

Venetia Grunder, 21, viewed an ultrasound image of the fetus in her womb. She was 12 weeks pregnant, though she had taken birth control pills as directed. "I feel pretty messed up," she said after seeing the image. "It's different, just knowing. My husband told me not to look. This changes my feelings, but I'm sticking by it. Damn it, $650, I'm sticking by it."

How many pieces of silver is $650?

Fisking this little paragraph, we find the whole Culture of Death in a nutshell:

"Venetia Grunder, 21, viewed ultrasound image of the fetus in her womb."

She saw a picture of the baby she conceived by voluntarily enjoying sex with her husband.

"She was 12 weeks pregnant."

This is what she saw:

"My husband told me not to look."

It's easier to stab someone in the back. It's easier to kill a stanger you never see.

"This changes my feelings, but I'm sticking by it."

My husband didn't think I had it in me to kill someone I knew, someone I'd seen. And it's harder, but I guess my bloodlust is stronger than either one of us thought.

"Damn it, $650, I'm sticking by it."

For $650, I'd kill anyone--even my own child.
One of the reasons I'm no longer an advocate for the death penalty is women like. As long as our society praises women who kill their own, as long as we defend the right of doctors to murder children for $650 cash, we have no business executing criminals.

If you can work up the frothing hatred to kill one person, you can kill many, many more. It's why we watch cops who've had to kill someone in the line of duty. We make sure they didn't enjoy it the way Kori does. Clearly, Kori enjoyed the show on the ultrasound monitor.

And what of the executioners?

"My oldest son won't let me see my grandchildren," said Sherry Steele, 57, a surgical assistant who started working at the clinic after her daughter had two abortions.

Good for her oldest son. I wouldn't trust my kids around a serial killer, either, even, or perhaps especially, if was my own mother.

After the procedure, one woman summarized the joy of killing, the joy of freedom from consequences of one's own actions:

I feel goofy now, but not in a bad way. I feel relieved more than anything. I know I'll never forget it, but I'd rather do that than have a child I can't take care of.

The next woman we meet has no qualms with killing children at the point of viability.

Karen, 29, who arrived at the clinic 20 weeks pregnant, expressed no qualms about ending her pregnancy. Like nearly half of all women who have abortions, she had had one before, when she was 18. She did not look on abortion as shameful, she said, adding, "All of your past goes into making you who you are."

"All your past goes into making you who are," Karen told the New York Times. Her past includes double homocide and no remorse. In my book, that makes what she is a murderer.

I am too sickened by what I've read to read the story any further. Perhaps I'm blinded by my beliefs, but I can't imagine that this story in the New York Times will help the pro-abortion side. Clearly, the women who have had multiple abortions believe that it's okay to kill for convenience. They as much as admit it when they say things like, "I'd rather do that than have a child I can't take care of."

VandyBlog notices the writer's attempt to raise pity for the abortionists who have to deal with government regulation.

Aw shucks. It seems mountains of regulations are OK for every industry except abortions, eh? I am quite familiar with this regulation regime. However, the industry in which I work is regulated far more than the abortion industry. In fact, if you listen to other NY Times authors, my industry is not regulated enough. While I choose not to disclose my industry (doing so may violate my company's Blog policy), I can assure you that decisions I make do not affect life or death.

Blogger Matt writes:

This article was posted in the New York Times, and it had what I think was the opposite effect of what the writer intended on me(though I could be wrong about that).

I assume Matt assumes (as I do) that the author intended to promote abortions and make abortionists and women who have abortions sympathetic characters. Instead, as I pointed out, he turned them into monsters. And how could he not? How could a reporter make Hitler into a hero?

I don't see why Democrats and many liberals are all up in arms over gas prices. They got what they wanted!

We don't have a much of a supply problem. We have a refinery problem. The answer is to build more oil refineries...and fast. If we had enough refineries to pick up the slack and continue meeting the demand, the rest of the country wouldn't be paying so much at the pump right now. Why don't we have more refineries?

Look to the treehuggers, folks. It takes years to get a permit to build a refinery, and that's a best-case scenario. The U.S. hasn't built a refinery in almost 30 years, because Democratic, liberal, leftist, socialist enviro-wackos are preventing the permits from being pulled. No new refineries, thus every old refinery is running at full capacity in the summer. Any hiccup or bottleneck (big or small) means an interruption in gasoline supply. It's exacerbated (for those of you in blue states, that means "made worse") by the fact that the "evil" oil companies have to refine dozens of special environmental blends to satisfy the politicians and treehuggers in various cities.

Thank Al Gore, too. The man who tried to steal the election of 2000 and disenfranchise Florida military votes should be damned thrilled with today's gas prices. His buddies Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich wrote the following in their book, The Population Explosion (1990, pp. 219-220): "The United States could start by gradually imposing a higher gasoline tax-hiking it by one or two cents per month until gasoline costs $2.50 to $3.00 per gallon, comparable to prices in Europe and Japan." On the dustcover of their book, Gore said, "The time for action is due, and past due. Ehrlich has written the prescription."

In Gore's own book, Earth in the Balance (1993, p. 173): "Higher taxes on fossil fuels...is one of the logical first steps in changing our policies in a manner consistent with a more responsible approach to the environment." Congrats, Al, and thanks a lot, you enviro-moonbat!

What about drilling in ANWR? Did you know the proposed drilling section of ANWR was set aside for the express, specific purpose of oil exploration (link)? How, then, can it be wrong and "pro-BIG OIL" to drill in an area we allocated for...drilling? Isn't that like buying a brand-new Hummer and then saying no one can drive it because it drinks too much fuel? Why buy it, then? We can't go get our own oil to partially release ourselves from dependency on oil from the most unstable part of the world (and thus order LESS oil from them, which would lower our gas prices even with refinery bottlenecks) because we might interrupt the mating habits of the Arctic snow possum...or whatever the hell it is.

So as you head to the pump for your holiday weekend, just know that you are paying so much because of the radical environmental movement in this country. But rest assured that $3.29 per gallon is a small price to pay in order to protect the precious (and cute, I'm told) Arctic snow possum!

I know that everyone with a heart is watching prayerfully as Katrina prepares to make New Orleans a piece of Americana history. If the worst of the predictions comes true, there could be several hundred thousand refugees.

Perhaps we fortunate souls in the rest of the country should begin a ring of volunteers willing to put up a displaced person or family until they can get back on their feet. I'm sure the government will help relocate folks. While St. Louis isn't exactly Louisianna's backyard, our door is open to such a family in need.

If anyone else in reasonable proximity to New Orleans would like to extend such an offer, please e-mail me at mail@billhennessy.com. I can fire up a website to coordinate these private shelters in 24 hours, but only if there's interest.

As you can see, the city is below water level. A 20-foot storm surge on Lake Pontchartrain could (with Dan Ratheresque emphasis) -- COULD -- put much of the city under 12-20 feet of water. The pumps which discharge each gallon of rain water from New Orleans run on electricity with diesel backup. They don't work if flooded, and they don't have enough diesel fuel to return the lake to its banks. Add in the trillion dollar price tags, and try to find a re-insurance company willing to insure a building. Thus, New Orleans may cease to be a major city. The displacement of persons might be permanent, causing a northward migration not seens since the end of the Civil War.

To tell the truth, I'm ambivalent about Wal Mart, I see good points and bad points to these super stores. However, in the midst of all the leftist rage the voice of Carlos Montoya, my new hero, is heard amidst the din over at the New Mexican:

I liked Ms. Laskowski's comments about how the drop outs of the SF school system will have jobs. How condescending is that? Why don't you take your Phd. and go back to what ever rock you came out of. Dems to fund thinking

Scrappleface has a hilarious post about the Democrats' new strategy to win an occasional election: thinking!

In a novel approach for the Democrat party, a group of left-leaning investors said it has raised $80 million in pledges to fund thinking, in hopes that thought and actual policies might be the secret to victory in coming elections.

The dramatic reversal of strategy comes not from the Democrat National Committee (DNC) itself, but from a group of 80 wealthy progressives who each pledged $1 million in an effort to emulate the conservative think-tanks which have developed during the past three decades.

However, a spokesman for the Democrat National Committee expressed concern that "this new so-called thinking strategy might divide the party, and reduce the amount of money available for our TV ads which make people feel bad about Republicans."

"People always run after the latest new thing," said the unnamed DNC spokesman. "But when they find out how difficult thinking really is, we're confident that they'll come back to the DNC."

True enough! Thinking people in the DNC "big tent" need not apply. Only shrill screaming moonbats are welcome!

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said Sunday that he’s looking into investigating claims that a Santa Fe Municipal Court judge altered records of people convicted of driving while intoxicated.

Richardson said he read in Sunday’s New Mexican about a former Municipal Court employee who said Judge Frances Gallegos systematically altered records in numerous DWI cases, often inflating defendants’ jail sentences and the actual time they spent behind bars. The report also quoted another employee and court documents.

Nice work, if you can get it, being a muni judge. I think it's a witch hunt, personally. After all, it's not like Judge Gallegos has ever been reprimanded by the Judicial Ethics committee.

Oops, my bad. She has.

Santa Fe Municipal Court Judge Frances Gallegos is the latest jurist to come under fire from the state's judicial standards commission, which says the judge violated the New Mexico code of judicial conduct by ordering defendants in her court to attend a driving-safety course put on by her court administrator, according to state Supreme Court records.

We should just change the name of the office from "Governor" to "El Presidente" then put a gigantic bananna on our state flag and get it over with.

Here's a happy guy, to be positive about these things. Go over and ask him about the "man hating witch".

State Senator John Grubesic (D-Road Rage) had yet another traffic-related incident this past week.

A sheriff's deputy went to Grubesic's home Tuesday because a neighbor reported he was speeding in his Chevrolet Tahoe on Star Vista Road east of Santa Fe and nearly hit her teenage sons who were on bicycles in front of their home. "He came within about 4 feet of one of my sons," Shelly Cobau said Thursday.

According to a police report -- and verified by a recording of the confrontation -- Grubesic first refused to talk with Sgt. Dennis O'Brien and later greeted him and another deputy with angry obscenities.

In case some of you might think they were happy obscenities, no. They were angry obscenities.

I love New Mexico Democrats. They show no second thoughts about piling on one of their own. All I need to do is bring the popcorn.

Gov. Bill Richardson, who appeared with Grubesic at a news conference about an unrelated matter last week, did not want to comment on the latest Grubesic incident, a spokesman said. Richardson has been criticized in the past for ordering his state police drivers to speed, though the governor recently said he no longer would do that.

But the chairman of the state Democratic Party had a thinly veiled suggestion for the senator.

A spokesman for John Wertheim, in an e-mail statement, wrote: "Chairman Wertheim grew up in Santa Fe and considers Senator Grubesic a good friend. (Wertheim) is willing to pick up the tab at Blockbuster if the Senator chooses to rent a certain movie starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson."

MADRID, N.M. - Firefighters battling a lightning-sparked blaze near Madrid stumbled on a marijuana plantation, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputies responded to the initial call from firefighters late Saturday and returned to the area the following day with a search warrant.

They found about 500 marijuana plants scattered among pinon trees on private land off N.M. 14.

A marijuana plantation? Am I the only person with images of stoners relaxing on the verandah with a bong, and banjos playing "Old Kentucky Home"? Seriously, you wouldn't need slaves to pick that crop. Between Santa Fe, Pecos and Taos you'd have a glut of willing workers.

She sat down next to a Goodrich family member and, during the distribution of communion, said, "Who are you?" Then she handed the family member one of her business cards, which Goodrich said she still has.

She demonstrated evil hatred for the Marine, committed psychological abuse on the family, and desecrated the Holy Communion with Christ's body and blood. She is very lucky that Marine was safely in heaven, or he'd have promptly put her safely in hell.

Rowling has stated repeatedly that the series will end with no. 7, which presumably she is working on as we speak.

Does anyone think she'd continue after seven volumes? After all, the series has been a license to print money. Or is it possible that the very success of the series will make it easier for her to move on? After all, it's easy to do what you want to do when you could probably buy Scotland with the money in your checking account. I think the bigger question than how the Potter series will end is how will her next creative venture be received.

The UN wants to eliminate poverty by eliminating children.

By eliminating children through abortion, there will be fewer children to become impoverished – or so the UN geniuses who thought up the proposal claim. In addition, if families allow fewer children to survive pregnancy, there will be more resources available for the remaining ones, thus ensuring them a better education, the same reasoning proposes.

How Soviet. Let us, instead, eliminate stupidity by eliminating the United Nations.

That should be the subtitle of the movie "Hotel Rwanda." It's enough to make you want to fly a plane into the UN building.

As we are seeing again in Darfur, the United Nations primary mission on this earth is to bind and gag the good people so that the evil people can more easily slaughter them. In Rwanda, the UN played footsie with the Tutsies, then turned tail and ran once their idiotic "peace plan" unraveled. After evacuating all the white folk, the UN left orders for 300 peacekeepers to never fire a weapon for any reason. Sort of like telling Albert Pujols he can carry a bat to the plate but may not swing.

Anyway, if you think you owe it to yourself or to some abstract idea of fairness to find something good to say about the UN, watch "Hotel Rwanda" and come to your senses.

Watching the news of the miserable murders in London, I am reminded, oddly, of the other Bombing of Britain. After weeks of torturous air raids on London and its suburbs, Nazi Germany surely thought that English stood on the brink of collapse.

But in the midst of the carnage, terror, and mayhem, Prime Minister Winston Churchill found the time to address the people of the United States. He encouraged us to keep a stiff upper lip. At the time, America had not entered the war. The relatively few Americans who had ever heard the term Pearl Harbor thought it a place, not an event. Yet here was the British Prime Minister, under siege, encouraging us "neutral" Americans not to worry.

Psychologically, the speech was brilliant. To the Americans, many of whom were urging the Roosevelt administration to begin kissing up to Hitler so convinced were they that Britain was about to succumb, Churchill's speech must have come as a slap--like those Patton delivered to cowards in hospitals years later. (Both men he slapped returned to combat, one earning a Silver Star for bravery, one dying in battle, both having written home to tell their parents that Patton saved their manhood.) To his countrymen, the speech demonstrated confidence in their fortitude, their bravery, their tenacity that no speech to them could ever convey.

Seeing the stoic solidness of the Londoners today I half expect Tony Blair to repeat history. I imagine him calling on our networks to air a speech to America urging us not to let the bombings cause us to go wobbly.

To my brothers and sisters in England, I say, God bless you and keep you. Thank you for your heroic bravery. I know you need no encouragement, but I will pray that you all continue to show the world that we are not all Spaniards. You will look the enemy in the eye and say, "Nuts!"

May your response to these cowardly acts inspire the weak people in the Americas and Europe. May we all look to London and say, "I want to be like them." When the history of the 21st century is written, may it record that this was your finest hour.

Yes, I've not been posting here for a bit. My bad. Oddly enough, there is a really good reason for this. I've just gotten done decompressing from taking my first Solaris Certification Exam.

I passed.

So there were several days of intense cramming (after all, I've only done this for ten years), followed by the whole test day and then a few days of decompressing. That means I finally ran out of Harp.

In any event, I needed sixty-six percent to pass, and busted out an eighty-four. Yay me.

As the receptionist told me later, she had never seen someone arrive at the testing center to loudly proclaim:

I'm here for the Solaris Exam

"Big Poppy Pump-Pump is here, and he's going to carry every last one of you exam taking computer dudes to the Promised Land. So just climb on my back, and get ready for the ride, brutha! You gotta be in it to win it."

(Why yes, I did grow up with Pro Wrestling, how did you know? And no, I have no idea what 'Big Poppy Pump-Pump' means. It seemed like the thing to say at the time.)

So now I have to get ready for Exam II, but not today. Not today. I think I'll go with a Maximus thing. You know, I'll break off all fifty-seven questions in like twenty-two minutes. Then I'll toss my mouse at the moderator and exclaim, "Are you not entertained? Are. You. Not. Entertained?" Then I'll spit and walk out while the guys who are there for the MCSE start chanting, "Tommissar! Tommissar! Tommissar!"

I just missed Stan Musial's career--in 1964 he retired to make room for Lou Brock.

Finally, I have a player I will drop anything to watch bat.

Yesterday, Albert Pujols hosted a golf tournament for Down's Syndrome kids. It raised a lot of money. In the middle of a week of typically violent St. Louis thunderstorms, God stood watch over the course hosting Prince Albert's fundraiser. Not a drop fell, though trees fell all around.

If you're not a baseball fan, Catholic, and sickeningly sentimental, you might not understand the way my heart flutters when my youngest son asks, "Dad, is Albert Pujols the greatest Cardinal you've ever seen?"

I say, "He could be."

He says, "I guess he's like Stan Musial for Grandpa."

Yeah. Stan or Enos Slaughter or Harry "the hat" Walker. (My dad's pretty old.)

It' so rare that a fan of a team gets to see a legend born, but that's how it is for Cardinal fans with Pujols. He's a gift from God for baseball fans, a man of unshakable faith who avoids the press because, in his words, "they don't understand who hits through me." Or should I write, " . . . Who hits through me."

It might seem silly to thank God for a baseball player, a millionaire. But in Pujols's dedication, faith, and achievement, we see the hand the God. Not because God is a Cardinal fan (though everyone knows He is), but because God is perfection--and Pujols stives for that.

If you've never seen him play, do so. He will be a legend.

Powerline, one of the blogs responsible for ending Dan Rather's career at CBS (aka "See? B.S.!"), had this line about Dean's replacement (and trust me...Dean will be replaced due to anemic fundraising):

The more he [Dean] is seen, the more likely he will be replaced by someone who believes what Dean and the mainstream of his party believes, but does a better job concealing it.

My wife insists on getting yellow corn with the huge kernels. All civilized people realize that white corn with small kernels is the only variety fit for human consumption. That other stuff is for the hog farmer.

Confronted with such elementary facts, she still persists, "I think this type tastes better." Is this some sort of Michigan thing that people who are fortunate enough to grow up with New Jersey corn just can't fathom?

What Hasn't Happened in the War on Terror

During my blogging sabbatical, I looked over some of the predicitons of the anti-war crowd posted during the late winter and early spring of 2003. I was struck by the number of things that haven't happened. Now, I know my writting this will cause it to happen, but there has been no mass attack on oil shipments in the Persian Gulf. That was the most frequent prediction. CNN even had an animation of how one big tanker sunk in just the right spot could cut off 50% of oil flow from the Gulf states indefinitely.

Well, it hasn't happened. I think our naval presence in the Gulf is one factor, but I think the kitchen table is the other. Oil fuels the terror network as much as it fuels American automobiles. Though Usama and his amen corner in academia (Ward Churchill) denounce the oil industry, they understand that without oil, the international terrorist movement is dead.

If I'm right, then it would seem economic warfare would be the most effective. (Bear with me--I'm thinking at the keyboard here.) At the risk of sounding like a tree hugger, I think $2.50-$3.50 per gallon fuel would be a good trade for peace, so long as that peace came about because the enemy starves to death, literally and figuratively.

Democratic Assemblyman Mark Leno of San Francisco, who is openly gay (and, to the best of my knowledge, not related to Jay), sponsored a bill in the California Assembly to allow gay marriage in CA. It went down (no pun intended) to defeat.

"This issue does not go away. Gay and lesbian couples are not going to disappear as of tonight," a bitter Leno said after the vote. "But they will have been told by the state of California one more time they're not worthy."

"We have to be patient," he continued. "Every poll shows that those over 65 oppose this idea ...but those under 35 support it more than those over 65 oppose it. So when the demographic shift occurs, the debate ends." Emphasis mine.

"When the demographic shift occurs"? In other words, when the old farts die?

This "just wait for them to die, then everything will be hunky-dory" approach is considered so ingenious that the DNC is thinking about adopting it for every political campaign for the next 40 - 50 years or so. I'm told that Howard Dean screamed in delight upon hearing the brilliance of the new strategy.

In this case, a group called Women on Waves sails to countries with restrictive abortion laws, piles women inside, then sails to international waters where they do their deed. They've done it previously in Ireland and Poland.

Then, they tried it in Portugal.

According to WoW, "after receiving no response from the harbor authorities to repeated requests for permission to enter," the Dutch abortion boat headed for the Portuguese coast.

"Within minutes" Portuguese naval vessels arrived on scene. They told the boat's captain to stop sailing toward Portugal.

A spokesperson for the Portuguese Defense Ministry told the French Press Agency that two Portuguese naval vessels will continue to monitor the abortion ship to ensure that the Dutch boat complies with the law.

Secretary of State for Sea Affairs, Nuno Fernandes Thomaz told daily newspaper Diraio de Noticias Sunday "if the ship decides to disrespect the orders of the Portuguese government it will have to get round a navy vessel."

The season finale of the show featured a storyline on judicial security. Detectives think a white supremacist is involved in the shootings of a judge's family. Here's part of the dialogue from that show:

ADA RON CARVER: An African American judge, an appellate court judge, no less.

MAN: Chief of DS is setting up a task force. People are talking about multiple assassination teams.

DET. ALEX EAMES: Looks like the same shooters. CSU found the slug in a post, matched it to the one that killed Judge Barton. Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay T-Shirt.

Come on, folks. Can it be any more blatant? The strong suggestion here is that Tom DeLay supporters are the type that would be likely to shoot federal judges. Now ... tell me that there is no left-wing bias in this writing. Needless to say, Tom DeLay is torqued. He's fired off a letter to NBC protesting. It will go nowhere. In fact, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has come up with an excuse ... sort of: Reilly says: "The script line involved an exasperated detective bedeviled by a lack of clues, making a sarcastic comment about the futility of looking for a suspect when no specific description existed," Yeah, we're buying that one. Good try, Kevin.

Now ... The Talkmaster has turned screenwriter. I thought I would give writing a few scenes for Law & Order a shot. Here's my first effort:

ADA RON CARVER: "She looks like she was alive when the car went off the bridge"

MAN: "Why didn't she get out? The water is only four feet deep here."

CARVER: "Dunno. Maybe she was dazed. The door might have been jammed. Anyway, she suffocated. Lack of air. Must have been a brutal death.

MAN: "Was she driving when the car went off the bridge?"

CARVER: "Doesn't look like it. The seat is too far back for her to have been driving. Looks like someone taller .. a lot heavier."

DET. ALEX EAMES: "Check the car to see if it has a Ted Kennedy bumper sticker."

What fun! Here's another one.

CARVER: "Someone give her a tissue. Her lip's all bloody.

POLICE OFFICER: "That's the way we found her."

CARVER: "Where?"

POLICE: "In a hotel room. She was just laying on the bed, bleeding from this bite mark on her lip. Pretty beat up.

CARVER: "What's she saying?"

POLICE: "Says she was raped. Says some guy invited himself up to her room. He was going to talk to her about a job or something. He raped her."

CARVER: "The blood?"

POLICE: "He bit her on the lip."

DET. ALEX EAMES: "Let's put out an APB for someone wearing a Bill Clinton t-shirt."

Sorry ... I just can't stop myself. This script writing stuff is fun!

POLICE: We think she was involved in setting this whole thing up.

CARVER: How's that?

POLICE: We think she set up a phony corporation for them so that they could operate below the radar.

CARVER: We're going to need proof. We'll need her billing records.

POLICE: We got a warrant. Looked for them. They're not there.

CARVER: Did you ask her?

POLICE: Says they're gone. She doesn't have them, and doesn't even know if any exist.

DET. ALEX EAMES: Sounds like the Hillary Clinton excuse. Keep looking, they'll turn up. Probably with her fingerprints and handwriting all over them. She'll keep denying it though .. even when the evidence is right there in front of her.

I ask you to imagine, if you can, the outrage that would come pouring forth from the nation's liberal media if any of those punchy little vignettes actually appeared on a network television show. We would see stories damming NBC for using that dialogue and making those references to liberal icons. But in this case all NBC did was suggest that DeLay supporters kill federal judges. That's not bias .. that's entertainment.

You want to know why liberals oppose states' rights? Because liberalism is collectivism. It is the concentration of power and decision in the hands of a few, select elite. It is tyranny of the "in."

States, in the liberal mind, might do something irresponsible with power, like turning over to the individual. The individual, so empowered, may go out and earn an income that produces surplus which he considers his property. And people with property, earned by the sweat of their brow, tend to oppose collectivism--and evil--and taxes.

Bottom line: Liberals love taxes and hate distribution of power. It's why they oppose drilling oil in Alaska, SUVs, and gun rights: each an example of distributed power.

State's Rights?

Much has been said recently about the crap going on in the US Senate. It's all about judges -- but to what end? Primarily the liberals and the Democrats (The "seven" are liberals who are not Democrats) do not want self-government or self-rule. They believe judges should be able to make decisions for all people. Those opposed support state's rights. So why should states have rights?

States should have rights so that individuals of like-mind can get together and join together in peace under self-rule. If you don't like a states' rules, you should be able to pick up and move to another state. The only things in common between all states should be freedom and liberty -- the things outlined in the Constitution.

Why is this so opposed? In their hearts, liberals want power over people, and to do that, they need to pass laws that apply to as many people as possible. That's wrong, and that's why liberals don't like states' rights.

Here's the latest on the Korean scientists doing human cloning work. Hat tip again to Amy Welborn. Apparently, some guy has deduced that this stuff isn't immoral according to Buddhist philosophy. I guess we can all rest easy now. My bad.

Thus embryos in this early-stage of a fertilized egg or a cloned one can be used and this idea is comports with Buddhist teachings, according to Dong-A University professor Kwak Man-youn.

"Whether Hwang recognizes it or not, his idea corresponds with that of Buddhism. The Buddha did not see an early-stage embryo as a life," Kwak said.

He noted the Buddha categorized a fetus into eight levels as outlined in one Buddhist text, and the earliest stage of embryonic development was not included in the grouping.

I love this! I mean, all Western Civilization did was build Universities and develop the Scientific Method and whatnot. You can go back to Archimedes and beyond to find scientists and mathematicians. Nearly all the major advances and discoveries in science and technology have come from Western Civilization.

Yet as we all know, conventional wisdom tells us we were all slaves to ignorance and superstition until like, 1968 or something. You know, it's all about how the Pope said the sun went around the earth, and people were burnt at the stake for saying the world was round and whatnot.

Apparently, however, Buddha was a skilled embryologist. You know, because he was Buddha. What's up with that? It's like a friend of my wife had mentioned. This woman is a Unitarian who attends her church's Sunday Lectures, err, Services.

As she tells it, whenever the head lecturer person starts a speech which mentions "Jesus" yawns and fidgets are heard. However, as soon as the word "Buddha" gets mentioned, the entire place goes nuts. "Oooh! Oooh! Buddha! This is important!"

Well you know what? If Buddha was such a major prophet, if he had something of the Divine within him, how come he never wrote anything along the lines of the following:

"In the future, it will not be cool to rub my statues' tummies for good luck. Don't do it."

What, like he wouldn't know that was going down?

I hope to see the sunset one last time before I die." The little boy answered "No Mr. Rattlesnake. If I pick you up, you'll bite me and I'll die." The rattlesnake said, "No, I promise. The little boy thought about it and finally picked up that rattlesnake and took it close to his chest and carried it up to the top of the mountain.

They sat there and watched the sunset together. It was so beautiful. Then after sunset the rattlesnake turned to the little boy and asked, "Can I go home now? I am tired, and I am old." The little boy picked up the rattlesnake and again took it to his chest and held it tightly and safely. He came all the way down the mountain holding the snake carefully and took it to his home to give him some food and a place to sleep. He carefully picked up the snake, took it close to his chest, and carried him back to the woods, to his home to die. Just before he laid the rattlesnake down, the rattlesnake turned and bit him in the chest. The little boy cried out and threw the snake upon the ground. "Mr. Snake, why did you do that? Now I will surely die!" The rattlesnake looked up at him and grinned, "You knew what I was when you picked me up."

This is a great thing, because when I think "sacred mystery of human life" I think "cloning factory" and "high-tech assembly line". Nothing like that to define common humanity.

For weeks, Benedict XVI was all the press could talk about. Have you noticed, though, how he's fallen completely off the MSM's radar? My guess is that the vilification crusade failed. Even liberal Catholics I know seem impressed with his humble servitude. As we saw with Ronal Reagan, sincerity is difficult to beat.

William F. Buckley, with is usual brilliance, summarizes the Democrat reaction to the judicial filibuster question thus: "[Y]ou would think the Republicans had proposed to rape the Statue of Liberty."

Where would we be without quotations from Chairman Bill? I believe it was Buckley who once said, "If the Democrats introduced legislation to burn the Capitol to the ground, the Republicans would offer a counter-measure to phase the fire in over six weeks."

Is it just me, or do others find it strange that humiliating photos of a mass murderer create more outrage than the abduction, rape, and live burial of a beautiful little girl by a convicted sex offender?
